Why I don't vote

Welcome to WeblogPoMo post the second. Warning: if you've been having a good day, don't read this post. It's rather depressing in tone and I don't want to ruin your day.

Fine. You kept reading, even though I warned you.

I don't vote.

Why? Because the system is broken, the politicians have failed us, and the people have failed us. My opinion no longer matters.

Now, I am aware that "every vote counts". Except, it doesn't. Every vote counted, and Trump won the election. Every vote counted, and my city is still run by a pack of useless bellends that have reduced our once-thriving downtown waterfront to a ghost town of for-rent signs. Every vote counted, and Biden is content to sit on his throne and do whatever he does all day. Despite that I voted, this country is still a shithole, my rent is still outrageous, my rights are ignored/threatened/overridden on a daily basis, and corruption still runs rampant.

My vote has failed to do anything to fix it, as well as everyone else's.

Perhaps it'll be fixed for real one day. I eagerly await the day the electoral college is outlawed and the people really get to vote, or the day the nutcases get their heads on straight and start caring about human rights. Believe me, the day a vote matters, I'll be there.

But my vote doesn't count, and when I turned it in, it didn't change a damn thing.

I promise I'll write something more positive tomorrow. Votes collected 1/1, motion passed, sold, to the highest bidder.

Nico
